Kristi Noem and Greg Bovino both experienced tragedy involving a parent at a young age in a vulnerable rural setting, upsetting order in their lives. As a citizen who was privileged to traverse rural, urban and international environments from an even younger age as a co-participant in their generation, my sense is that Kristi and Greg aim to feel secure not against powerless immigrants but against cultural hubris radiating across the countryside from progressive cities such as Minneapolis and Chicago.
